LUCY’S HANDS (2021) original painting

Hands have always been so difficult for me - I’ve also been thinking about a tip I see all around these art groups I’m in: “paint what you see, the shapes”. It sounds so simple but it can be really difficult. So I took a photo of my hands and got to it. I didn’t want to use fleshy colors because A) I need a little more practice with it and B) colors are more fun. I’m really obsessed with this yellow-green I use in a lot of my other paintings so that was easy to choose. Then I noticed I had also used green for the fairy’s skin tone in my painting Lucy - of course I had to connect them. Magic hands. Her magic is pink: playful, sweet, tender - I also love that pink represents childhood. It’s gentle and fun. This is her washing that energy over you. I’m proud of this one because I really think I killed the hands and going with a little bit of a different method with the way I laid the paint, especially the pink glow on the fingertips.
